We don’t blame you—those Fast & Furious movies are endlessly re-watchable! In Tokyo Drift, Han is driving a 1997 Mazda RX-7.
The car was designed specifically for Han’s character and would cost almost $80,000 to rebuild today. So, what makes Han’s drift car special?
First, it produces over 300 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque. Compared to modern cars, that might not be a ton, but for a 1997 vehicle, it provided plenty of giddy-up to make a great sports car.
On top of that, the stunt team added huge chrome wheels to the Mazda—and then shaved down the rear tires to reduce their grip! The combination of perfect tires, power, and, of course, the ideal driver made those chase scenes in Tokyo Drift unforgettable.
