What are the best places to live in Sacramento?

My wife and I are moving across the country to Sacramento to be closer to her parents. We’ve only visited a few times and aren’t familiar with the city. Where are the best places to live?

As one of the most diverse cities in the country,
Sacramento
is known for its laid-back atmosphere, incredible food, booming economy, and loads of things to do (including plenty of wineries and breweries). The best places to live in Sacramento are Davis, Folsom, Gold River, Granite Bat, Rocklin, Roseville, Rancho Murrieta, Fair Oaks, and El Grove.
  • Davis: Davis is a college town and has consistently been ranked #1 for the best places to live for years. There are plenty of great restaurants, top-notch nightlife, and it’s very environmentally friendly. It’s also bicycle-friendly for those who prefer to travel on two wheels.
  • Folsom: On the east end of the American River Parkway is Folsom, a former cow town that’s become a great family-friendly area due to several excellent schools and Folsom Lake College.
  • Gold River: Located within walking distance of Sacramento’s premier American River Parkway, Gold River is known as the jewel of Sacramento. There are dozens of bike paths and walking trails, and it’s the perfect spot for cycling enthusiasts.
  • Granite Bay: An excellent spot for corporate executives and families with plenty of green spaces and access to boating and bike trails.
  • Rocklin: Rated as one of the safest cities in California to raise a family, this is an excellent area for parents and their kids. Full of excellent schools and great restaurants, what more could you want?
  • Roseville: Just next door to Rocklin, Roseville has great restaurants and excellent schools and is the perfect area to raise a family.
  • Rancho Murrieta: If you’re a golf fanatic, Rancho Murrieta is for you. Although this golfing community is located further away than other areas, it’s stunning and nestles in the foothills. Oh, and it’s just a short drive to California’s foothill wine country.
  • Fair Oaks: A quaint, old town known for roaming chickens.
  • El Grove: If kids are in tow, El Grove has plenty of award-winning schools, lots of shopping, and great restaurants. It’s a cute town with plenty of outdoor spaces for kids to play.
