Should I buy a Ford extended warranty?

I’m headed to my Ford dealership to sign the title on my new car, but I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not I should add the extended warranty to the purchase. Should I buy an extended warranty from Ford?

You should buy a Ford extended warranty if you think the additional peace of mind is worth it. Just be aware that you may never have to use it. Here are a few things to consider.
Coverage: Also known as the Ford Extended Service Plan (ESP), the extended warranty from Ford offers either extended bumper-to-bumper or limited powertrain coverage for a total of up to eight years or 150,000 miles—whichever comes first. Extended bumper-to-bumper coverage is the more expensive option.
Price: The Ford extended warranty can cost anywhere from 2,000 to $4,500. It’s worth comparing your quote with the cost of buying
mechanical breakdown insurance
once the standard factory warranty expires.
Usage: In an ideal world you’ll never have to use your Ford’s warranty, extended or not. And if you do have unexpected repairs, your warranty will only cover them if they can be traced back to a manufacturer’s defect—it will not cover standard wear and tear.
It’s up to you whether a Ford extended warranty is worth it—but no matter what,
