Is the DPF covered under a Ford warranty?
I drive a pretty new Ford F350 Super Duty and lately my tail pipe has been looking sooty and black. I suspect my DPF is cracked, but I only have 13,000 miles on my truck. Would the DPF be covered under the Ford warranty?

Sorry to hear your F350 has been trailing smoke! Fortunately, yes, the DPF is covered under Ford’s emissions warranty for a period of two years or 24,000 miles. You should therefore be able to get your Diesel Particulate Filter replaced under warranty as long as your Ford F350 isn’t older than two years and the DPF is damaged due to structural flaws.
Here are some other things that are included in Ford’s factory warranty:
- Bumper-to-bumper coverage: covers most mechanical electrical components for 3 years or 36,000 miles (doesn’t include filters, windshield wiper blades, orbrake pads)
- Powertrain: covers transmission and drivetrain for 5 years or 60,000 miles, and the engine for 5 years or 100,000 miles for Super Duty pickups with diesel engines
- Safety restraints: covers safety belts and Ford’s Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) for 5 years or 60,000 miles
- Corrosion: covers rust that perforates through body sheet metal for a period of 5 years (unlimited miles)
While you can always check with your owner’s manual for a more exhaustive list of covered components, the dealership will have the most updated list—just have your
