How much is it to reinstate my car insurance?

Last year was hard for me. I couldn't pay my car insurance premiums, and my policy was canceled. Now that I'm in a better place, I want to reinstate my policy so I can drive again. Can you tell me how to reinstate my car insurance and how much it’ll cost?

I’m so glad that you’re able to get back on the road! Recovering from a
car insurance lapse
can be challenging but far from impossible.
To reinstate the agreement you had with your previous car insurance company, you’ll first need to:
  • Pay any missed payments or unpaid premiums.
  • Pay a reinstatement fee. Costs vary from provider to provider.
  • Fill out a form or sign a statement of “no loss”. It certifies that no insurable loss occurred during your missed payment grace period and that you won’t file an insurance claim.
Not every insurance company will allow you to reinstate your policy, but it never hurts to ask. Call your provider with your previous policy, missed payment bills, and your original policy cancellation notice.
If all else fails, you might have to purchase a new policy, but that’s not such a bad thing—you might find an even better deal than before!
