How much is a new car alternator?

How much does a new alternator for your car usually cost? My friend's mom said I need one, but I'm worried it'll be too expensive.

Answer
If you’re having electrical problems with your car, than you may need a new alternator. While the price of a new alternator will depend on your car and the shop you choose, a new alternator will generally cost between $500 and $1,000—including labor charges.
But not all electrical problems are related to the alternator. Your problem could be the battery, the starter, or one of many other electrical components—most of which are cheaper to replace than an alternator. Before paying for a new alternator, it might be worth getting a professional diagnosis.
