How much does it cost to add a new driver to your car insurance?

How much will it cost to add another driver to my car insurance? My girlfriend just got her license. Since she'll be driving my car, I think it will be cheapest to just add her to my policy.

“The cost to add a new driver to your
car insurance
will depend on your car insurance company, but you can expect your rates to increase. This is because car insurance rates are determined by risk, and an additional driver adds additional risk.
Plus, since your girlfriend just got licensed, she doesn’t have an established driving record. So car insurance companies will consider her an even higher risk until she can prove that she isn’t.
To add her to your policy, you’ll need to reach out to your car insurance company. They’ll be able to give you a quote on the cost. To do so, they’ll need her:
  • Driver’s license number
  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
If you find it’s too expensive to add your girlfriend to your policy with your current company, you should shop around. The
Jerry
app makes it easy. A licensed broker that offers end-to-end support, the Jerry app gathers affordable quotes, helps you switch plans, and will even help you cancel your old policy.
If you can’t find a
more affordable rate
, you can always add her and continue to shop around every six to 12 months. Quotes should start to decrease as your girlfriend gains experience and maintains a clean driving record.”
