How much does a trophy truck cost?
My cousin Eddie has been jabbering all week about getting a trophy truck and getting into desert racing. He waves me off when I tell him he’d never be able to afford a trophy truck on his barista. Just out of curiosity, how much does a trophy truck cost?

A trophy truck can cost a total of anywhere from $500,000 to $1,000,000 or more, so cousin Eddie has a few more iced americanos to sell if he’s set on rumbling through the desert in the Mint 400.
A typical trophy truck is quite the fearsome beast, and is often (but not always) kitted out in the following way:
- A naturally aspirated V8 engine
- Boasting anywhere between 850 and 1,000 horsepower
- Feature a chromoly steel chassis and a roll-over cage
- Most sport an A-arm suspension system at the front, and a three- of four-link system with a solid axle at the back
- Desert-specific tires measuring between 37 and 39 inches, featuring multi-ply sidewalls to protect against tears and abrasions from roaring through desert terrain
The truck itself can cost anywhere between $250,000 to $500,000. Fuel, tires, and extra parts can run to about $200,000. You’ll need between roughly $200,000 and $400,000 for a maintenance team, a hauler, and chase vehicles**. And the typical purse for desert races is usually no more than $10,000.
