Here are some of the most common penalties for careless driving in New Jersey:- Points: Following a careless driving conviction in New Jersey, you’ll be given a minimum of two points on yourdriving record. In extreme cases, you may even earn more than two points.
- Court fees: If convicted, you’ll need to pay a $34 court fee in addition to your fines.
- Point charge: When drivers earn more than six points in three years, they’ll face surcharges from the state. So if your two points for careless driving take you over six points, you’ll need to pay $150 plus $25 for each point over six.
- Jail time: In extreme circumstances, such as accidents involving severe personal injury, you may face up to 15 days in jail for careless driving.
