How many people can live in a single family home?

My brother and his family recently lost their home, and I’ve invited them to come and stay with my family. I just want to make sure that we won’t be breaking any laws. Is there a limit to how many people can live in a single family home?

As with most issues relating to residence, exactly how many people can live in a single-family home depends on what state it’s in. Generally, you’re allowed to have up to three residents for every bedroom. For instance, if you have three bedrooms, you’d be allowed to have nine people living there.
You’ll want to double-check your state laws to ensure there isn’t any other type of limit, but as long as you have the space, it should be fine.
With your brother’s family moving into your home, you may want to consider increasing your

coverage to ensure everyone’s property is protected should something happen.
