How do I get rid of scratches on car plastic?
I have some annoying scratches and scuffs on the plastic pieces in my car, like the dashboard and door panels. How do I get rid of these scratches in my car?

Scuffs and scratches on your car’s interior are bound to happen. Fortunately, they are fairly easy to repair.
To get rid of scratches on car plastic, you have a few options:
- Start by cleaning the affected area. This is a good way to determine what you’re actually dealing with before you dive in. The majority of scuffs can likely be removed by cleaning the area thoroughly with a car interior cleaner and microfiber cloth. And if you are dealing with a scratch, the area will need to be cleaned anyway to prepare for the next solution.
- Purchase a plastic scratch kit from your local supermarket or auto shop. The directions will vary by kit, so be sure to read and follow your kit’s specific instructions for best results.
- A heat gun is definitely the coolest way to get rid of a scratch. First, ensure you have a clean, dry surface. Start on a low setting and move the gun consistently back and forth over the area until the scratch disappears. If nothing is happening, you can up the heat setting, but be careful of overheating the plastic—or it might melt! Follow up with fine-grain sandpaper to smooth any uneven areas if necessary.
If the scratches are too deep or you discover cracks in the plastic, you should consider taking your car to a professional. Although fixing these things can cost a bit of money, the result will speak for itself.
