How long does an accident stay on my driving record in California?

I was recently in a car accident that caused my insurance rates to increase, and I’m wondering how long it will be before they go back down. How long will it take for an accident to fall off my driving record in California?

Most car accidents stay on your
California driving record
for three years—but the length of time until it falls off your record depends on the severity of the infraction and whether you’re driving a commercial vehicle.
  • Minor fender benders and other minor accidents will be reported for three years for non-commercial drivers.
  • DUI convictions
will be reported for 10 years for non-commercial drivers.
  • Violations that occur in a commercial vehicle or by a commercial driver will be reported for 55 years
