How long do tie rods last, on average?

I just bought a used car, and the previous owner mentioned that the only work the car ever needed was to replace the tie rod. But this makes me wonder when I’ll need to replace it again. How long do tie rods last, on average?

First, congrats on your new-to-you car! And we’re more than happy to help you better understand tie rods, what they do, and how long they last.
Tie rods are small but critical components in your car’s steering system. When you turn your steering wheel, the tie rods play an important role in helping your wheels turn left and right.
A damaged tie rod might result in something as minor as uneven tire wear, or as serious as losing control of the car entirely. So if you ever suspect something is amiss with your car’s steering, get it to a mechanic as soon as possible.
Tie rods are designed and built to be durable, and can last tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of miles without needing to be replaced. But they’re not indestructible. Exposure to seasonal weather or rough terrain can wear them down more quickly, and they can also be damaged by potholes, road debris, or car accidents.
Despite their ruggedness, tie rods are relatively inexpensive to replace (as far as automotive repairs go). You’ll usually spend between $100 to $200 per tie rod, though prices can range upwards of $400 depending on the make and model of your car.
But again, this is a car part you’ll only rarely need to replace, if ever.
We hope this helped clear up your questions about tie rods. And don’t forget to find
