How do you tie down a bicycle in a truck bed?

I just bought a new mountain bike to take out on the trail near where I live, but I don’t know how I should transport it. What’s the best way to tie down a bicycle in a truck bed?

Bicycling is a great way to exercise and experience nature—just don’t forget your helmet! If you need to transport a bike and don’t have a carrier that mounts to the rear of your vehicle, you can still do it easily with a
pickup truck
and a pair of ratchet straps.
Just follow these steps:
  • Remove the seat from the bike
  • Set it upside down in the bed of the pickup with the rear wheel towards the truck cab
  • Attach both ratchet straps to anchor points on the bed in a way that hold the bike in place
  • Carefully tighten the straps until the bicycle is secure
There you go—you’re all ready to hit the trails and burn through some miles. Of course, you should also consider
insuring your bike
against damage if you intend to make mountain biking a long term hobby. While you’re at it, check out the
