How do you test drive a car without buying it?

I’m in the market for a new car and want to test a few, so I know what I’ll need to save for. Is it possible for me to test drive a car without buying it?

Yes, you can test drive a car without buying it. Generally,
car dealerships
will allow you to test drive almost anything.
The goal of the test drive is to help convince you to purchase a car, which is why most dealerships allow you to do so.
When you head to the dealership, make sure to bring the following:
  • Your license: You’ll need a license to drive the car yourself. If you don’t, you could ask a licensed friend or family member to accompany you.
  • Proof of insurance
: While dealerships have insurance on their cars, they may ask if you have a current policy.
Pro tip: Be sure to be upfront with the salesperson. Let them know you’re interested in a particular car and want the information on it, should you decide to buy it. Doing so can prevent the salesperson from pressuring you into purchasing the vehicle.
