How do you replace a 1998 Honda Accord starter?

I drive an old Accord as a second vehicle and do almost all the maintenance myself. I’ve run into an issue I haven’t handled before: the starter has been acting up. I think I need to replace it but am not sure how to install a new one. What’s the process to replace the starter on my 1998 Honda Accord?

That’s great you do almost all the maintenance on your car yourself! As long as you have some prior mechanical knowledge, putting in a new starter should be relatively easy.
To replace a 1998 Honda Accord starter, follow these steps:
  1. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
  3. Lift the driver’s side of the car using a jack stand placed under the frame.
  4. Remove the lower radiator hose from the starter by pulling it off the starter.
  5. Use tape and a marker to label the wires and their proper location.
  6. Disconnect the wires and unplug the wiring harness from the solenoid.
  7. Unscrew the two mourning bolts and remove the starter from the motor.
  8. Install the new starter, making sure to tighten the mounting bolts and connect the wires correctly.
  9. Lower the car down off the jack stand.
  10. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
With that, your car should be up and running in a short time! If you have any questions or encounter any issues, you should consult a mechanic.
