How do you repair a Toyota key fob?
I have a key fob for my Toyota 4Runner, but it hasn’t been working as of late. What can I do to fix or repair a key fob for a Toyota?

key fob isn’t working! But you have a few options to make sure it’s working again. To repair a Toyota key fob, replace the battery, check the circuit board, or buy a new one. In all likelihood, a bad battery is the culprit, so that’s a good place to start. Purchase a CR2032 battery for $2 from an auto parts store or pharmacy. Then, follow these steps:
- Press the key tab on the side of the key fob.
- Pull out the spare key.
- Use the key to pry apart the key fob.
- One side of the key fob contains the buttons; set this aside.
- The other side features a circuit board. Pry this out using your fingernail.
- On the other side of the circuit board is the battery.
- Pop the old battery out and put the new one in.
- Put the key fob back together, and hopefully, this fixes the issue.
If it doesn’t, go through the same steps. But this time, inspect the circuit board for any water damage or cracks. If you see any damage, you may have to replace your Toyota key fob. The price for a new key fob depends on the manufacturer and the year of your Toyota 4Runner. Generally speaking, expect to pay between $50 and $300.
