How do you remove violations from a driving record in Georgia?
In the past, I’ve gotten a couple of speeding tickets and have been pulled over for texting. I want to turn over a new leaf, but I worry my record will hold me back. How can I remove driving violations from my record in Georgia?

When you’re convicted of a
driving violation in Georgia
—whether it’s for speeding, distracted driving, reckless driving, or another offense—it will stay on your record permanently, no matter how much time has passed. You will also receive points
at the time of the offense, but these only stay on your record for two years. Pro tip: You can potentially get rid of points faster by requesting a points removal from your record. Point removals can help you remove up to seven points from your record once every five years.
Here’s the process to remove points from your record:
- Complete a certified driver improvement course
- Receive your certificate of completion
- Present the certificate of completion to the DDS either by mail or in person
The
benefits of a defensive driving course
are evident when it comes to points removal—but there’s no way to remove violations from your record outright. Fortunately, it becomes very expensive for insurance companies to look far back into your driving history. If you’re lucky, good driving behaviors from here on out should reduce your insurance rates with time.
