How do you put a Ford Edge in neutral with a dead battery?

Help! My car’s battery died in one of the exits at my work’s parking structure! I’m waiting on a tow but I want to move it out of the way so the end-of-day rush can get out. How do you shift a Ford Edge into neutral when the battery’s dead?

You know your car is doing you dirty when it’s trying to keep you at work with a dead car battery. Here’s how to put a Ford Edge in neutral with a dead battery:
  1. Look for a long plastic panel on the side of your car’s center console between the driver’s seat and the gear shift.
  2. Pop this panel out with your car key and you should see all the shifting mechanisms of your Ford Edge.
  3. Test the shift lock on your gear shift’s handle and you should see a tiny white plastic piece trying to move up and down.
  4. Look for a horizontally moving piece below the shift lock piece. You may notice that it is blocking your gear shift from unlocking.
  5. Use your key or a screwdriver to push the horizontally moving piece in to unlock your gear shift and allow you to put your Edge into neutral.
And just like that, your Ford Edge should be able to be moved out of the way of traffic! To make things easy for you, consider adding
towing and labor coverage
to your

policy if you haven’t already. Also known as roadside assistance, this add-on offers easy coverage for emergency towing, jump starts, and more.
