My son dropped my old key fob, and it stopped unlocking my car door. We bought a new one, but it hasn’t been set up. What’s the best way to program my Toyota Corolla remote?
were once a neat luxury, but now they come standard on many cars. While some modern key fobs need to be programmed by a dealer, older ones can likely be set up manually.
Follow these steps to program your 2009 Toyota Corolla key fob:
Get in the driver’s seat and leave your driver’s side door open and unlocked.
Put your key in the ignition (don’t turn the ignition on). Pull it out. Then, repeat the process once more.
Close and open the driver’s side door twice.
Insert your key in the ignition and pull it out.
Close and open the driver’s side door twice more.
Put your key in the ignition—leave it in this time.
Close the driver’s side door—leave it shut.
Turn the ignition to ONwithout starting the engine, and then switch it back off.
Remove the key from the ignition—your locks should cycle to signify you’re in programming mode.
Hold the lock and unlock buttons on your new key fob for two seconds, then release.
Repeat for two seconds, then release again.
The vehicle should cycle its locks to show your remote is programmed.
Exit programming mode by opening your door. Then, test the key fob!
This process may seem long and convoluted, but it should only take a few minutes. That said, you can always bring your car and new key to a dealer if you’d rather not program it yourself.
