How do you open the gas tank on a 2003 BMW X5? This is my brother’s car that I’m temporarily borrowing, so I’m not really used to it.

If all is in good working order, opening the gas tank door on a 2003
BMW X5
is pretty simple, but problems with the locking mechanism could make it more complicated.- First, unlock the vehicle, which will also unlock the fuel filler door
- At the fuel filler door, lightly press in on the door until you hear a click. Then, the fuel door should pop open
- Unscrew the filler cap and place it in its bracket found on the inside of the door while you refuel
- Once you’ve filled your tank, press in on the door until it’s latched shut again
If you can’t get the fuel door to open this way, it’s possible there could be a problem with the
locking mechanism. If that’s the case, there’s a manual release found in the trunk area of your BMW X5. You’ll find it behind a panel near where the fuel door would be.
Just pull on the tab with the fuel pump symbol to release the fuel door.
If after this you’re still not having luck, your brother might want to enlist the help of a mechanic in case there’s a problem with the fuel door’s mechanism, so it would be a good idea to check in with him and find out what he wants you to do.
