How do you keep rats out of a car hood?
What’s the best way to keep rats out of a car hood? I’ve had issues with rats getting into my car before and I’d like to take preventative measures so it doesn’t happen again.

Here are a few things you can do to keep rats out of a car hood:
- Open the hood. Rats are often looking for a dark, warm place to nest. If your hood is open, the spot will be less appealing.
- Keep pet food locked up. Dog food, cat food, and even birdseed could all end up stored in your air filter, glove box, or other spots in your car if rats get their hands on it.
- Drive your car often. If you drive your car often, rats won’t have time to establish nests inside.
- Use a deterrent device. You can purchase sonic or visual deterrents to keep rats and mice out of your car, such as Rid-A-Rat.
- Seal off hiding places. If you can, cut down any shrubbery or thick vines near where you park your car. If you have a garage, block off rat-sized entrances.
- Use traps. If you’re still having rat problems, use a snap or glue trap to catch any stragglers in or near your car.
