How do you jump start a Honda CR-V?

My car died in my driveway, so I can’t even get it to the auto shop for a new battery! What’s the best way to jump start my Honda CRV so I can get it back on the road?

While your battery might last a little longer after a
jump start
, you’re probably right about getting a new one. That said, you’ll need a working car battery and a set of jumper cables to give your car the juice it needs to get to the auto shop.
Follow these steps to jump start your Honda CR-V:
  • First, put your car in park and turn off the engine.
  • Open your hood and locate the battery.
  • Attach one end of the positive cable to your positive battery terminal and connect the other end to the working car’s positive terminal.
  • Then, connect one end of the negative terminal to the working car’s negative terminal and hook the other end to a fixed piece of unpainted metal on your engine block.
  • Start the working car and let it run for about five minutes.
  • Try starting your car. If it doesn’t work, give it another minute and try again.
  • Once your car starts, remove the cables in the reverse order of how you connected them.
If you follow these steps, your battery should have enough charge to reach your nearest auto shop. Remember, if you don’t plan to replace the battery immediately, you’ll need to drive your car for at least 30 minutes after jumping it to get a substantial charge.
