How to remote start your Honda CR-V
Remote start is available on four of the 2021 Honda CR-V trims, including the Special Edition, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The LX base trim doesn’t come with remote start.
Here’s how to do it:
- Press the lock button on your key fob
- Press and hold the engine start button (the arrow circling clockwise) for at least 1-5 seconds
- Wait for your engine to start up and you’re ready to go!
After the engine starts, the automatic climate control system will begin air conditioning or heating your car. Lights and accessories will remain off until you head out to your vehicle and turn them on.
And if you’re still not out of the house after 10 minutes—your CR-V will automatically shut off to save energy!

- Press and hold the engine start button until the engine shuts off

Before you remote start your Honda, keep these tips in mind:
- To extend the 10-minute timer that activates after the remote start, repeat the three-step remote start process listed above.
- Make sure you’re using remote start within 100 feet of your vehicle and nothing’s blocking the way. Buildings or other cars between you make it harder for the signal to reach your CR-V.
- Only use remote start when your car is in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. Dangerous carbon monoxide can build up in contained spaces.
- Never remote start your CR-V near flammable materials. Things like oil, grease, and car maintenance fluids in your garage need to be out of the way.
