How do you change your car in GTA 5 story mode?

I hate the personal cars in GTA V, especially the stupid Buffalo car that Frank drives. I stole a motorcycle that I really liked, modified it, then put it in my garage. The next time I went to drive it, it was gone! What gives? Can you change cars in GTA V or not?

Sorry to hear about your car troubles. Unfortunately, you can’t change your personal vehicle in GTA 5 story missions—it will always reset to that character’s default vehicle.
Modifications to personal vehicles, however, will always stick. This also applies to the personal vehicles of NPCs, like the one belonging to Michael’s daughter. Even if you destroy them, they’ll pop right back up in the driveway as if they’d never been gone.
No such luck for stolen vehicles. You can, however, store stolen and modified vehicles in your personal garage. Unfortunately, these garages are notoriously buggy and might “eat” your car. A lot of player forums suggest visiting the police impound lot, where you might be able to recover your ride, and in a pristine condition to boot!
