How do I switch my car insurance to another company?

I found a better price with a different car insurance company. How do I switch from my current car insurance to another company?

“To switch your
car insurance
to another company, you’ll first want to inform your current company.
While you’re not required to inform them of your intention to switch, doing so will ensure you are aware of any fees you’ll incur for canceling your policy. Although you can cancel an insurance policy anytime, some insurers do charge cancellation fees if you cancel in the middle of your policy.
You’ll also need to provide your current company with a cancellation date. If you know you’ll be purchasing the new policy on a particular day, you can tell them to cancel the old policy on that date, too.
If you’re unsure when you’ll be purchasing the new policy, you’ll want to wait to cancel your insurance. It’s important to avoid a
lapse in coverage
as it may amount to paying more for coverage in the future, as well as subjecting your vehicle to uncovered damages. So, you want your old policy to remain active until the date you start your new policy.
