How do I start a Toyota Highlander without a key?

I have a 2016 Highlander. I think the key fob battery is dead because I can’t get into or start the vehicle. It’s late at night, so I can’t even go to the store to get a battery. Is there any way I can start a Toyota without a key?

Sorry to hear about your issues with the key! In all likelihood, your
Toyota Highlander
key fob has a dead battery. But don’t stress! I’m happy to help you out.
To start a Toyota Highlander without a key, just follow these instructions:
  • Look for a button that says push on the side of the key fob.
  • Push in on the button and pull the physical key out.
  • The physical key will allow you to get inside the vehicle by unlocking the doors manually.
  • You may notice at this point that the vehicle has no key slot for the ignition.
  • However, if you take the key fob and place it directly on the push-button start while you press it in, the car will start without any issues.
Once you can get to a store, buy a CR2032 battery, which is the one used in almost all key fobs, including those for Toyotas.
