How do I sleep in a car on a road trip?

I want to go on my very first solo road trip this summer. However, my budget is relatively limited. I was thinking about sleeping in my car, but I’m not sure where or how to do it. What’s the best way to sleep in a car on a road trip?

Sleeping in your car on a
road trip
is a great way to save money. But you’ll need a few tips and hacks to do it safely:
  • Map out places to sleep ahead of time. Rest areas along the highway are a smart move, but you can also consider Walmart parking lots or casinos.
  • Bring blankets and pillows. Even if you’re traveling during the summer, you still want to be comfortable. Wool and cotton blankets are the best option, as polyester and synthetic fibers can get hotter more quickly.
  • Park in a safe place. The area should have enough lighting to deter criminals, but it should also be dim enough where you can go to sleep.
  • Pull over if you get tired. Even if you can’t find a place to sleep in your car, spending one night in a hotel or motel is a better option compared to getting into an accident.
Sleeping in your car isn’t the only thing you should consider while planning your road trip. Roadside assistance or
towing and labor coverage
is essential. If you get stranded, run out of gas, or have a mechanical breakdown, these services can get you to a repair shop and out of a sticky situation.
AAA is famous for its roadside assistance program, but check out towing and labor coverage, which is an additional option on your car insurance. If your current car insurance company doesn’t offer it or you were planning on shopping around for car insurance anyway, make sure to look at the
