How do I put spark plug wires in the correct order?
I’m getting ready to replace my spark plug wires as they are faulty. I have a new set of wires and I’m pretty sure I know how to attach them. What I don’t know is what order to put them in. How do I make sure that I put the spark plug wires in the right order?

Great question! You’re absolutely right—putting spark plug wires in the correct order is vital. Otherwise, you will have all sorts of engine trouble. The easiest way, of course, is to have a mechanic do it for you. If you’d like to do it yourself, the best thing is to only remove one wire at a time to ensure you don’t connect a terminal to the wrong cylinder.
Spark plug wires are how electricity reaches each spark plug to facilitate ignition. It is crucial to connect the correct spark plug to the right ignition coil. Otherwise, they will receive power in the wrong order, which can negatively affect your engine.
Before you begin, make sure that the engine is cold, and the battery is disconnected. If you haven’t already removed the wires, remove and replace them one at a time. Then, you can simply trace back the wires to the only open plugs and coils; there won’t be any chance of getting things crossed.
If you’ve already removed the wires, things get a bit tricky. The best thing to do is refer to your owner’s manual. It will have a detailed diagram of the terminals and cylinders, which you can use to make the correct connections.
