How do I put my Jeep Wrangler in neutral with a dead battery?

My Jeep’s battery is drained and I have to move it out of the street and into my driveway. How do I put it into neutral when I can’t start it?

Sorry to hear about the
Jeep
troubles! Luckily, you can put your Jeep Wrangler in neutral with a dead battery by using the emergency neutral lever. Here’s how to do it:
  • Engage your Jeep’s parking brake
  • Using a screwdriver or similar tool, remove the cover on the end of the shifting console—it’s on the side facing the front of the Jeep
  • Once the cover is removed, you should see a strap that’s attached to the emergency neutral lever
  • Pull the strap toward the driver’s side until you feel the lever click
Now your Jeep is in neutral. Remember that it will stay in neutral until you disengage the emergency neutral lever. Pull the strap toward the driver’s side again and you should feel the lever disengage.
