2016 Ford F-150 5.0 engine oil

Before adding or changing your pickup’s oil, you need to know what the 2016 Ford F-150 5.0’s oil capacity is
To make sure your Ford F-150’s 5-liter V8 engine stays happy and healthy, you’ll need to give it 7.7 quarts of engine oil on each change. You’ll want to periodically check the engine oil level with your vehicle’s dipstick and add some between changes when necessary.

What kind of oil does a 2016 Ford F-150 5.0 need?

If you check your engine oil and see that it needs to be topped off, or you’re about to change the oil altogether, you’ll want to make sure you have the right oil ready. Engine oil types are not all the same, and it’s important to use what the owner’s manual recommends.
Ford Motor Company suggests using SAE 5W-20 engine oil in your 2016 Ford F-150 5.0. This is the best type of oil for your truck’s specifications and will ensure optimal performance.
To better understand the different oil types and what their abbreviations mean, here’s an explanation of what they mean:
  • SAE is an abbreviation for safe for all engines.
  • The W is for winter. If it’s preceded by a smaller number, like 5, that means it has a low viscosity in cold temperatures.
  • Finally, the last number—the 20 or 30 above—tells us the viscosity level at the engine’s normal running temperature of 212° Fahrenheit.

How often to change the oil on a 2016 Ford F-150 5.0

Besides knowing the oil capacity and oil type, you need to know how often you should
change your oil
.
Ford Motor Company suggests an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. It’s quite a range, and you’ll need to take into consideration how hard you’ve worked our pickup when deciding just when to get an oil change. For instance, if you’ve done a lot of towing and hauling, you’ll probably need an oil change sooner than someone who just uses the truck as a commuter.
To make sure you’re on top of your oil changes, you’ll want to regularly check your engine oil. Do it once a month, or every other time you fill-up the gas tank. When you check your oil, look for any indications that you might be due for a change, including these hints:
  • Your engine oil is dark brown or black instead of light brown or amber-colored
  • Your engine oil feels dirty or gritty
You can also monitor for hints that it’s time for an oil change while driving. Watch out for:
  • Any unusual smells, like burning oil
  • A change in your car’s performance or any
    unusual noises

How to change your oil and oil filter

Now that you know your oil capacity and oil type, you’re ready to change your engine oil. If you don’t want to take your pickup to a service center, you can do the oil change yourself at home.
Before getting started, you need to gather the right equipment and materials. You’ll need 7.7 quarts of SAE 5W-20 oil, as well as a filter wrench, drain pan, socket wrench, replacement filter, and new oil drain plug gasket. Once you’ve got everything ready, here are the steps to changing your oil:
  • Start your engine and let it run for about five minutes to get it warm. Then turn off the ignition and open up the hood.
  • Remove your oil fill cap and set it aside somewhere so you don’t lose it.
  • Get under the pickup and crawl underneath your engine to remove the old oil drain bolt and gasket so the oil can drain into the drain pan.
  • Remove the old oil filter while the old oil finishes draining.
  • Install your new oil filter
  • Replace your oil drain bolt with your new oil drain plug gasket. Tighten it to 29 lb-ft.
  • Add 7.7 quarts of the new oil and replace the oil fill cap.
Once you’re done, check your oil level with the dipstick to make sure it’s at the right level. Then, turn on your engine and let it run while you check for any leaks. Also, check to make sure the
oil pressure light
is off.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
When you’re ready to clean up, put your old engine oil into a sealed container and take it to a recycling center. Do not throw it in the trash or dump it on the ground. Many parts stores and auto service centers offer used engine oil recycling.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
