Bureaucracy is as transparent as mud. Allow us to clear up any misconceptions. Your driver’s license number is usually the first string of 7-13 numbers and letters listed on your ID.
Depending on your state, it may be labeled:
  • DL
  • DLN
  • DL #
  • ID
  • LIC. NO.
  • LIC #
  • NO.
All these abbreviations represent the same thing: driver’s license or identification number.
If you're unsure it’s the right sequence, compare your current driver’s license to your old one. Your identification number stays the same from one license to the next. Hopefully, you can put your ID back in your wallet and get on with your paperwork!
