How do I get a replacement car key if I lost the original?

My purse was stolen, and my car keys were in it. Is there a way I can get a replacement if I don't have the original anymore?

Sorry to hear about the theft! As a silver lining, your
comprehensive coverage
should pay for the new keys!
If you need to get a replacement key, your first call should be to your insurance company. They usually work with certain locksmiths, and they will help you file a claim for the replacement.
Sometimes, the locksmith can get you a replacement on the spot. Other times, you will have to get your car towed to the locksmith’s office. Generally speaking, the cost of replacing your keys is somewhere between $100 and $350.
In other instances, and especially for newer cars, you may have to go to the dealer to get a replacement. In addition, you may need a new ignition lock cylinder.
Hopefully, you have comprehensive insurance to cover this or you may have to pay out of pocket. If you don’t, you may want to add this coverage to your policy. That’s when you should trust
