How do I fix a water leak in my car roof?

I was driving my car in the rain when I felt a drip on my nose. Now, whenever it rains my car roof leaks. This wouldn’t be an issue if I lived in Southern California but I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains nine months out of the year. How do I fix a water leak in my car roof?

A leaky roof is the last thing you want as a car owner in the Pacific Northwest! Rainwater can cause mold to grow on the upholstery and the power locks and window controls to short if the leak in your roof is not fixed promptly. The good news is, you can purchase a roof sealant from an auto shop or hardware store to patch the leak in your roof.
Follow these steps to quickly fix your car roof leak:
  • Clean and dry the leaking area with a rag.
  • Squeeze a bead of roof sealant on the leak.
  • Spread the sealant evenly to cover the hole using a piece of cardboard.
  • Allow the area to air dry or dry with a hairdryer.
  • Spray the area with water to test for leaks.
If your car has bumper-to-bumper warranty you can have a professional repair the water leak for free.
