Yikes! A peeling clear coat can be pretty unappealing. To fix a peeling clear coat on a plastic bumper, you’ll need to strip and repaint the entire bumper.
Unfortunately, there is no reliable way to seamlessly restore a small area of clear coat once it begins to flake and peel. For the color to match correctly—and for proper adhesion—the entire bumper should be completely stripped and repainted. Otherwise, the new material will simply sit on top of the old clear coat and begin to peel again.
Try blocking off the area with masking tape and gently sanding off the damaged clear coat until it’s gone. Wipe the area clean, then apply an aerosol clear coat over the entire sanded area. Wait five minutes and apply a second coat.
Once it’s dry (usually after 24 hours), remove the masking tape and use 2000 grit sandpaper to wet sand the border. Try to blend the borders of the new coat with the old coat. Finally, clean with rubbing alcohol and polish. Wait several weeks before waxing.
