How do I find the best driving instructor?

I finally got my learner’s permit. Rather than take driver’s ed at my high school, I’m going to a private driving school to expedite the process. I’m a little nervous about choosing an instructor. What makes a great driving instructor?

Congratulations on getting your permit! You’ll be a licensed driver in no time. To find the best driving instructor:
  • Ask friends and family members for recommendations.
  • Use internet reviews to guide you to a reputable school.
  • Find an accredited school; they tend to have higher standards.
  • Meet with your instructor beforehand to see if they’re a good fit.
  • Ask about the instructor’s qualifications and credentials, including how long they’ve been teaching.
If possible, you should also figure out if the school will allow you to switch instructors upon request. Even if an instructor has great experience and recommendations, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a good fit for you. Trust your instincts. If something seems off, make the switch as soon as possible.
