How do I check previous car insurance?

I'm trying to compare insurance prices, but I can't remember who insured my car before. Where can I check?

“There are a few different places to find information on old insurance policies, including:
  • Your files
  • Your financial statements
  • The DMV
Check your files: You’ll want to look through your own files for past claims, insurance documents, or expired insurance cards. Be sure to look in the glove compartment of your car; you might find some old insurance cards in there.
Look at card statements: Look through previous credit card and bank statements to check for outgoing charges to insurance companies. If you find any insurance companies in your records, give them a call to see if they have your former
policy information
.
Contact the DMV: If you’re still not able to find your insurance information, you may need to contact the DMV. Many states will keep a record of insurance for licensed drivers, so they may have the information you’re looking for.
While you’re checking into old policies, you might want to check your current car insurance, too. The
Jerry
app will help make sure you’re not paying too much for car insurance by shopping up to 50 name-brand providers to find the best policy at the best price—for free.”
