How do I check points on my driving record in California?

A friend told me that you can have your license suspended and not even know it if you get too many points in a certain period of time. I got a lot of points recently because I accidentally made an illegal U-turn. How can I check the points on my driving record in California?

You can check points on
your driving record in California
by making an account on the DMV website and requesting your driving record for a $2 fee.
You could also request your driving record in person at the nearest DMV office. In-person records cost $5.
If you need an official copy of your driving record you can do so by mail. You’ll need to go to the DMV website to fill out the official request form, which you can mail along with a $5 check or money order.
If you’re stressing about how much
