How do I check if my car insurance is active?
I purchased a policy two months ago. I made a down payment to start a policy, but my insurer hasn't taken another payment. How do I check that my car insurance is still active?

To check if your car insurance policy is still active, contact your car insurance company directly or access your policy information online or through their mobile app—and do not drive until you can confirm coverage.
We can recommend two other back-up options, in case you can’t immediately get in touch with your company.
Check your mail and email: Your car insurance company is required to mail you a notice of cancellation before they cancel your policy. They may have also sent an email indicating your policy is pending cancellation.
Check your bank statements: Search for your car insurance company’s name to see if any additional payments show up. If you have a copy of your
policy’s declaration page
, check the date you started your policy, as your next payment would normally be due 30 days after that.It’s possible that you either missed the payment coming out of your bank or it hasn’t been a full 30 days yet—or it’s possible that something went awry and your policy was
canceled due to nonpayment
