How do I change my insurance on my car registration?

I’m changing my insurance. I need something cheaper. Do I have to change my insurance on my car registration? And if so how?

In most cases, you don’t need to change the insurance on your registration if the car is the same.

Either way, check out your local DMV’s website for more information.
Usually, the DMV needs this information to update your registration:
  • Vehicle identification number
  • License plate number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Current vehicle registration card
