How do I change a Tesla key fob battery?

I bought a used Tesla through a private sale. Unfortunately, the touch screen has just alerted me that the battery is low on my key fob. How do I change the battery?

I’m sorry to hear that the battery is dying already in your key fob. Don’t worry you should be able to DIY this! You will want:
  • A new CR2032 battery
  • A small flathead screwdriver
To replace the battery, you should do the following:
  • There should be a flat side to your
    Tesla
key. Flip the fob so the flat part is facing upwards.
  • Using your screwdriver, gently remove the bottom cover of your fob. It should slide off once you get it loose.
  • Gently remove the dying battery. You can use your screwdriver to help with this as well.
  • Replace the old battery with your new CR2032 with the + facing you.
  • Return the bottom cover and test out your new battery.
If you get locked out of your Tesla in the future it may give you peace of mind to have roadside assistance that includes lock-out services. With the
Jerry
app you can get access to a roadside assistance program so you’re never left stranded.
