I own an electric car, and though it's relatively new, I want to know how long I should expect to have this car around. How do electric cars age?

Great question—it’s crucial to understand how your car ages. When considering how electric cars age, you have to take note of the life span of the battery pack.
A Consumer Reports study estimates that, on average, the lifespan of your
electric car’s
battery pack is roughly 17 years. That number assumes that the vehicle has used 200,000 miles which is about 12,000 miles per year. That doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road; it’s simply time to switch your old battery pack for a new one. As with any other old car, your electric car’s battery will eventually start to degrade. Like a cell phone, you may notice that your car battery will start to lose charge capacity over time. Studies suggest that the loss is somewhere around 2.3% per year. Pay attention to these changes to track your EV’s age.
