In
Tennessee
, eligible drivers can clear their
driving records
by completing state-sanctioned driver improvement programs.
Eligible drivers can take a driver improvement course (sometimes called a
defensive driving course
) regardless of how many points are on their license.
But for the course to count toward the removal of points from your driving record, drivers must meet the following criteria:
  • Drivers must have accumulated 12 or more points within a 12-month period
  • Drivers must not have completed a driver improvement course in the last five years
Based on these criteria, Tennessee’s point’s removal program is meant for drivers with a seriously rough record. If you fit the bill, taking a driver improvement course could be a step in the right direction toward lowering your insurance costs. The only other solution is to wait it out. Tennessee car insurance companies typically don’t look back on your record further than 3-5 years. Over time, your premiums will go down, so long as you curb any future citations.
