How can I test my cruise control switch?

I am planning to head out on a drive across the country in the next few weeks, but I've had troubles with my cruise control before. I want to make sure my cruise control is functioning before I start my drive. Is there a way to test my cruise control switch to see if it's working?

Driving across the country, how exciting! It would be a shame to have any vehicle troubles on your journey. Luckily, it will be fairly simple to tell if your cruise control switch is working or not.
In most modern vehicles, the cruise control switch has five different functions.
Take your car for a spin and test each button, in turn, to ensure they are working accordingly:
  • The ON/OFF button: When you press the on button, a light should turn on in the dashboard. If a light doesn’t come on, you may have a damaged control switch
  • The set/accelerate button: When functioning properly, this button should accelerate the speed of the vehicle in cruise control. If it doesn’t work, you may have a problem with the control unit
  • The resume (RES) button: You will know if this button isn’t working if the vehicle doesn’t resume its regular speed when this button is pushed
  • The coast function button: The control switch may be faulty if you’re unable to reduce speed by pushing the coast button
Replacing the control switch can be a simple repair, and it is certainly worth doing before a long road trip.
With all of the time spent on the road, you’ll want to ensure you and your car are protected with the right
