How can I repair holes in leather car seats?

My boyfriend carved his name into my leather seats. He said it was a romantic gesture. I...disagree. How can I repair the holes in my leather car seats?

Yes, that is a little over the top! You can have the car seats repaired professionally, or you can try to fix it yourself.
If you want to repair the leather seats yourself, you will patch and fill the holes. To do this, you will need:
  • Sharp scissors
  • Sandpaper–600 grit
  • Wax paper
  • Leather swatch in matching color
  • Leather adhesive
  • Heat gun
Once you gather the supplies, you will want to follow these next steps:
  • Cut away any rough edges of the torn leather.
  • Sand the leather edges until they are pretty smooth and flush to the seat.
  • Put a small piece of wax paper into the hole behind the leather.
  • Cut the leather swatch into a piece slightly larger than the hole.
  • Do another round of sanding. Slightly rough leather makes it easier for the adhesive to stick.
  • Cover the whole area with leather adhesive and smooth it out.
  • Carefully use a heat gun to bond the adhesive and lock the material in place.
If you don’t want to fix this yourself (and you’re angry with your boyfriend), you can file a
comprehensive claim
on your
car insurance
policy. The downside of this is that it would qualify as a vandalism claim, and you may need to file a police report. If you and your boyfriend are still together, you might not want to do this.
