How can I get a copy of my title if I lost it?

How can I get a copy of my lost car title? I live in Michigan and finally just sold my used car. The guy I sold it to is coming over to pick it up and I can't find my title anywhere! What can I do?

Don’t worry; you can still sell your car, but it will take a little time and leg work.
You can request a replacement title at a Secretary of State branch office by filling out an application. Since you have someone pick up the car today, you will want to take advantage of their same-day instant title service.
Here is what you will need to bring with you:
  • Yourself, in person
  • Title application
  • Valid driver’s license or state ID card
  • $20
Most offices can issue the title the same day. If for some reason they can’t, it will be sent to you in the mail within 14 days. If this is the case, it’ll only cost $15.
Once you have the title, you can have the buyer sign it and complete the title transfer! Once the car is no longer yours, don’t forget to update your
car insurance
policy.
Since you will be making policy updates, now would be a perfect time to get the best rates for your car insurance! Downloading the free
Jerry
app will make price shopping a breeze. Jerry works with over 50 insurance providers and will deliver the lowest deals straight to your phone in seconds so that all you have to do is pick the best deal at the best price point.
Best of luck with the title transfer; you’ve got this!
