Does home insurance cover poor workmanship by a contractor?

"I hired a friend of a friend to install some roof shingles at my house because he offered to do the job for a low price, plus my friend vouched for him. This was a big mistake. The work he put in is shoddy and unacceptable. Will my home insurance cover the cost to address this poor workmanship?

“Unfortunately, most homeowners insurance policies are not going to cover poor workmanship by a contractor. It’s your responsibility to thoroughly vet the people you contract to repair and maintain your home.
However, your policy may cover damage that’s caused as a result of the work. So, for example, if a plumber improperly installed some pipes in your home and this causes water damage to your property, the water damage may be covered, but not the cost to fix the pipes themselves. “
