Does home insurance cover carpet damage?

My washer somehow overflowed and flooded the first level of my home. While the damage wasn’t terrible, I’ll need new carpet. Will my home insurance cover the carpet damage?

Oh no! Unexpected flooding is incredibly stressful, but I’m glad the damage wasn’t too bad. Thankfully, in this case, your home insurance should cover the carpet damage.
Most
home insurance policies
cover accidental discharge or overflow of water from an appliance. As long as your washer was in good condition and the overflow wasn’t a result of wear and tear or age, your home insurance should cover the replacement of your carpet.
Note that carpet damage from external (weather-related) flooding will not be covered by home insurance. You’ll need separate flood insurance to cover such instances.
You’ll need to check your policy to determine if you have a deductible. If you do, you’ll be required to pay that amount before your insurance company chips in. Once you cover your deductible, your insurance will pay the remaining amount up to your policy’s limits.
That said, keep in mind that submitting a claim to your insurance could cause your policy rate to increase. If it does, try using
