Does Carmax accept credit cards?
I’ve been considering using Carmax to buy my new car, but I always prefer to use my credit card and I’m not sure if that’s an option. Does Carmax accept credit cards?

Yes, CarMax accepts most major credit cards for payments. Specifically, CarMax accepts the following credit card brands:
- Visa
- MasterCard
- Discover
- American Express
CarMax also accepts written checks and cash as payment methods.
While it may be tempting to put a purchase this big on your card, using credit to complete a vehicle purchase is rarely a good idea. That’s because credit cards often come with significantly higher interest rates than
car loans
do. It’s fine if you want to use your card to cover any associated fees or costs that come with the purchase—but if you’re looking for a way to finance your new vehicle, most of the time a car loan comes with lower interest than a credit card.
The good news: CarMax can actually help you find a loan! The company extends car loans to customers through its in-house financing department, CarMax Auto Finance, which offers flexible loan amounts and competitive APRs as low as 4.95%.
