Do you fail the driving test if you hit a curb?

My driving test is coming up soon but I don’t feel confident with my turning. I seem to make tight turns often. Will hitting a curb be an automatic fail on my driving test?

Turning a vehicle can be tricky for new drivers, but with some practice, you’ll be a pro!
You will fail a driving test if you hit a curb. It is an automatic fail if you drive over the curb and/or knock the examiner off the passenger seat. However, if you scrape the curb gently and readjust, you may only get docked a few points off your test score, depending on your examiner.
Here are some tips to help you improve your turning before your test:
  • Grip the wheel firmly so that you can better control the car turning and returning to its neutral position after the turn.
  • Keep both hands on the wheel to increase your range of motion when turning so you have better control of how wide your turn is.
  • Look a half-mile ahead on the road—your body will automatically favor turning the car in the direction you are looking.
